Ugg and Jimmy Choo– the Two Perfections

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Fashion Statement is still scratching its head at the puzzling news that Ugg – purveyors of furry boots to the masses – is teaming up with Jimmy Choo – purveyors of slinky heels to the, well, moneyed few. We’ve never been fans of the Yeti-footed look, and we really can’t imagine how Ugg could possibly be happy bedfellows with a brand not known for its love of the flat sole. Furry kitten heels? Quilted stilettos? Only time will tell. Apparently there will be five styles in multiple colours starting from a startling £495, but Fashion Statement for one doesn’t plan to set its alarm clock early on launch day.

The news got us thinking of other fashion marriages that ended in acrimonious squabbles – or at least bargain bucket clear-outs. Celebrities loom large: Madonna for H&M – cut-price shiny black catsuit, anyone? – springs to mind, as does Lily Allen for New Look, which distinctly underwhelmed anyone not looking for a cheap and cheerful prom dress.

Ugg Hot in 2010

UGG can be the most comfortable boot you will ever wear. The matchless qualities of the sheep upper indicate that they will stay your feet warm in even the coldest of weather conditions, but that they will not overheat your foot if you wear them in summer. The sheepskin breathes extremely well. Your lower leg and foot will be comfortable in the boot even in warm weather because of the air spaces formed next to your leg by the looseness of the wool.

And ugg are great indoors where waterproof isn’t a problem, and make wonderful house flats. They can be got in many lengths, so that you can get ugg that come right up your lower leg to right below your knee, or ankle length ugg that create dright higher than the ankle becoming perfect inside slippers.

This is UGG news from AAP named: “UGG under copyright threat”

The commonly used name for Australia’s iconic sheepskin boots, “UGGs“, could be under threat of another copyright claim.

American company Deckers tried to claim the name in 2003, but the national trademark regulator ruled the term was generic and could apply to any kind of sheepskin boot.

Deckers, which owns the name UGG Australia in other countries, has reportedly made a second attempt with IP Australia to prevent local companies from using the name.

(IP Australia is the agency that grants rights in patents, trademarks, and designs.)

It has also threatened action against Australian companies selling UGG boots on internet sites such as eBay.

Labor MP Sharryn Jackson says the government should do what it can to prevent the company from acquiring the copyright in Australia.

“UGG boots are an Aussie icon and it is a generic term used for sheepskin boots,” she told parliament.

“It’s wrong that an organisation like this is able to use its strength and size to try to force an Australian industry out of business.”

“Or for them to have exclusive use of the word UGG in all countries except Australia.”

UGG boots started out as an icon of the Australian surfing culture in the late 1960s and has since developed into an international fashion footwear item.

UGG Truth

Since Ugg is known primarily for their sheepskin boots, they have taken painstaking methods to improve the designs of their wider range. Although they still offer their classic boots that never go out of fashion, they have updated the styles of their classic models by adding a few buttons and embellishments here and there. They have also added new colors to their collection. But aside from their classics, they now have men’s boots like the Beacon that’s perfect for use even on rough terrain and can happily withstand the elements. They also have the women’s Highkoo which is made of leather and is sleeker and slimmer than their usual boots. It’s slouchy and can be worn with a skirt, a dress and skinny jeans. So what kind of Ugg boots do you like?

Basically, the company understands that the tastes and needs of their customers evolve as time passes that’s why they have worked hard to improve not only the quality but also the designs of their items, especially their boots. In their efforts to diversify the product range its certainly true that they are not just winter shoes, now they are boots for all seasons!
